HENRIK HÜRDEN / LEPTARIINU “Opposites”

On 12 August 2021 at 5.30pm, Henrik Hürden’s and Lepatriinu’s exhibition “Opposites” opens at Staapli 3 Art Gallery. As the title implies, the topic of the exhibition is contrasts and opposites.

“OPPOSITES mean everything to me. In everyday life as well as in my creative practice, I am often faced with extremes and opposites, though I do not always consciously notice them. So far in my practice, opposites have been a natural part of my artwork. In this exhibition I wish to bring some of them out. I especially enjoy depicting the stillness and harmony that emerges between the opposites.” (Henrik Hürden)

“I like the contrast between grey mass and vivid detail. It’s especially asethetically pleasing to look in the opposite direction during a rainfall where you can discover all the colours, that is, the rainbow. Everything “ordinary” helps to bring out something extraordinary, and so, my world is in balance. This is where “Opposites” began. There is no one without the other. No good without bad, and beauty without uglyness. And BEAUTY is in the eye of the beholder.” (Lepatriinu)

Exhibition artwork displays moments from everyday life that have captivated the artists and brings the viewer observations that have been collated into comparisons. And so, in a way, the exhibition “Opposites” also contrasts the two artists’ artwork, which vary in their practise as well as style.

HENRIK HÜRDEN
Henrik Hürden is inspired by everything in the everyday. His biggest inspiration comes from nature, and conflict between the natural and artificial. Usually the “think tank” starts working when Henrik is on a long walk or travelling. He is also inspired by music, radio lectures by Ööülikool and his personal heroes’ podcasts. Henrik has graduated from scenography at the Estonian Acadmy of Arts and has exhibited his work at Telliskivi Creative City, Staapli 3 Art Gallery, ArtDepoo gallery and Ministry of Rural Affairs.

LEPATRIINU
Lepatriinu notices everything that is unique, interesting and mainly colourful. She often stops to see how something has been made and everything worth learning must be learned through experimentation. In the last couple of years, her art has depicted faces. Lepatriinu is fascinated by life, people, style, makeup and creating illusions on faces. Like herself, her work is more likely to be over-the-top than modest.
