AIME THE THEATRICAL POET “Black, Red, Yellow”

From 29 November, Rataskaevu 6 Art Gallery displays Estonian artist Aime the Theatrical Poet’s exhibition “Black, red, yellow”.

The exhibition is a play of forms, colours and different themes. It’s a visual journey through different states of mind and spirit, a journey that is jolly, playful and meditative at the same time. Aime’s artwork has been influenced by naive art, various ancient cultures and simple forms of nature.

The title of the exhibition reflects artist’s love of primary colours and bold visual statements. True to her artist name, theatricality is part of Aime’s artwork as well. Aime says: “When I start a new picture, most of the time I do not know where it will take me. I am just doodling until the picture eventually reveals itself. I like drawing on a black canvas. Black background is like looking out of the window of a space ship into the Universe and embarking on a mysterious journey into the unknown.”

Aime says she is not targeting any traditional “demographic groups” with her artwork. “My target audience is the Inner Child of adult people in general. In my experience, viewers who feel a connection with this type of artwork can come from any walks of life. However, I would like to underline, even though my pictures have nativistic child-like qualities, the exhibition is fully aimed at adult audiences – because it is based on the journey of an adult soul in the 3D world.”

The medium of artwork is digital painting. The artist would like to underline that none of the images are created by a software. All pictures are hand-painted, using the computer mouse as a brush.

Aime is an Estonian writer, visual artist and performance artist. She says: “As a visual artist I am self-taught. My teachers have been art galleries of the world and my own trials and errors”. Aime’s “official” education is Master’s Degree in linguistics, but she has always led a parallel life as a creative artist as well. Aime has produced creative work in various formats, such as publishing books of poetry and prose, taking part at numerous performance projects in Estonia and abroad, creating solo performance projects, presenting her artwork at exhibitions. Prior to current showcase Aime has had 7 solo exhibitions, most of them in the UK. In this gallery, she has previously presented her show “Cabaret of theatrical comedy poetry” .
