STEPH “Sticky”

On 24 October at 5:30pm, Rataskaevu 6 Art Gallery opens exhibition “Sticky” by French artist Stéph. The paintings on displays tell stories about moving countries, new emotions and experiences.

The main character of the exhibition is an octopus called Sticky, who was created in 2022 when the artist moved to Estonia. With eight arms, nine brains, three hearts, and a lot of charm, Sticky experiences all kinds of emotions and situations. Sticky lives in a comic-like (almost funny) world, drawn and painted with acrylics on the reverse side of wallpaper rolls, but also on paper and canvas. As the artist adapted to life in Estonia, so did Sticky – initially born in black and white, he soon embraces colour.

The exhibition “Sticky” features over 10 different comic-like paintings and narrated situations that were inspired by the artist’s own experiences in relocating, but as well by everyone’s everyday life experiences.

Stéph is a self-taught artist born in France, who has been drawing comic characters since he was a teenager. According to the artist, his work has been subconsciously (or consciously) influenced by the French “Figuration Libre” movement, which reflects in his use of comics and graffiti elements in his paintings. Since 2021, he has participated in several Drink and Draw Tallinn workshops and group exhibitions in Estonia, and has organised exhibitions at Kuku Klubi and the Euroopa Galerii at Tallinn University.

Exhibition opening 24.10.2024 from 5.30-8pm
